Triglycerides

Triglycerides are a type of lipid found in blood. When we consume food, calories are released by the oxidation of food. The calories which the body does not exhaust are converted into energy resources called triglycerides which are stored in the fat cells of the body and are used to supply energy when required. Under the action of certain hormones these triglycerides are broken into simpler, absorbable forms of fatty acids to liberate energy.

Body needs triglycerides, as they are extremely important for the overall functioning of the body. They are required for producing energy and they also serve as the building blocks for cells

High triglyceride levels can be caused due a number of factors. It may be genetic or may be related to obesity or untreated diabetes. It has been found that generally high levels of triglyceride are directly linked with dietary imbalances in most of the cases. Consumption of quick digesting carbohydrates elevates the triglyceride level of the blood.

High triglyceride levels are linked with the risk of cardiovascular disease. Researchers conducted have shown that high triglyceride levels raise the danger of heart diseases up to two to three times.

medicines used to lower triglyceride levels have severe side effects therefore natural methods such as triglyceride diets are highly advocated for. Triglyceride diets have been recorded to bring down a remarkable decrease of about 50% in the occurrence of cardiac diseases. People having exceptionally high triglyceride level should observe certain measures like shedding extra calories, opting for food with lower calories. They should limit the intake of high fat meat, dairy products, eggs, starchy vegetables and coconut or palm oil instead lean meats, fish, , and low fat dairy products must be consumed. Animal proteins should be replaced with plant proteins like beans, peanut butter and nuts.

An increase in the content of dietary fibre is also beneficial.

* If a balance of carbohydrates, proteins and fibres are maintained in the diet it decreases the risk of high blood sugar levels and thereby imposes a check on high triglyceride levels too.

How Can We Lower the Risk of Heart Disease?

?Question: How Can We Lower the Risk of Heart Disease
My husband's family has a history of heart disease in the men on both his father and mother's side. What can we do to keep him healthy and at a lower risk of developing this disease?

Answer: There are a lot of lifestyle changes you can make to reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease and other chronic diseases like diabetes and some cancers too. Make sure your husband sees his doctor regularly to detect any problems early and to answer any questions he might have about making any lifestyle changes
•Eat at least five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
•Get plenty of fiber from fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
•Stay away from high sodium junk foods, processed foods and greasy foods.
•Eat less red meat. The meat you do eat should be low in fat
•Don't smoke.
•Start an exercise program.

•No more than one alcoholic drink per day. allah in quraan says :

{يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْخَمْرِ وَالْمَيْسِرِ قُلْ فِيهِمَا إِثْمٌ كَبِيرٌ وَمَنَافِعُ لِلنَّاسِ وَإِثْمُهُمَآ أَكْبَرُ مِن نَّفْعِهِمَا}
meaning :

They ask you (O Muhammad ) concerning alcoholic drink and gambling. Say: "In them is a great sin, and (some) benefit for men, but the sin of them is greater than their benefit." And they ask you what they ought to spend. Say: "That which is beyond your needs." Thus Allâh makes clear to you His Laws in order that you may give thought

Vitamin D and Cancer

This is exciting new research indicates that vitamin D—whether produced in the skin as a result of exposure to ultraviolet radiation (from sunlight or sun lamps) or obtained from supplementation may help cancer patients.

However, the research is far from complete. News headlines about vitamin D are appearing everywhere. For years, most of us wrongly assumed we'd be fine if we drank a little milk and took a multivitamin pill. Now, studies are reporting most of us are vitamin D deficient and those deficiencies may well be causing numerous illnesses, especially cancer.
Recent medical research indicates human daily requirements for vitamin D may be up to 10 times more than what is currently recommended. Proper vitamin D supplementation gives one a much better chance of preventing many major illnesses such as, but not limited to: Heart Disease, Hypertension, Arthritis, Chronic Pain, Depression, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Obesity, Premenstrual Syndrome, Muscular Weakness, Fibromyalgia, Crohns Disease, Multiple

Sclerosis, Autoimmune Illness, and Cancer.

How Much Vitamin D ?

How much vitamin D one should take daily to prevent cancer is still unknown. It is a question more complicated than it at first appears, for we get most of our vitamin D from the sun. Even a little sun will make some vitamin D, if it is the right time of day.
We get a little in our diet, almost all of it from milk or fish, but none of us get enough from our diet. We also get some in multivitamins, but multivitamins only contain 400 units, which is about 10% of the body's daily need. It appears to us that the best thing to do is be conservative and maintain natural vitamin D blood levels year-round by receiving sunlight in the summer and supplementation in the winter. In this case, "natural" means blood calcidiol levels similar to humans living in a natural relationship with the sun, such as farmers in Puerto Rico or lifeguards in the United States. Both groups have calcidiol levels above 50 ng/mL.
So the amount an individual would need to prevent cancer really depends on how much sunlight exposure they receive in terms of duration, the time of year and time of day, and the amount of skin exposed. Any vitamin D already being received through diet and supplementation should be considered as well.

How much vitamin D should one take if they have cancer ?

We don't know, as the research is far from complete. Remember, although current research indicates vitamin D to be an effective tool in the fight against cancer, it should be used in

addition to regular chemotherapy or surgery. .

night blindness(vitamin A deficency )

People with night blindness (also called impaired dark adaptation) typically see poorly in the darkness but see normally when adequate amounts of light are present.

Symptoms:
May vary on an individual basis for each patient. Symptoms include difficulty seeing when driving in the evening or at night, poor vision in reduced light, Only your doctor can provide adequate diagnosis of any signs or symptoms and whether they are indeed Night blindness symptoms.

Causes:
nutrational cause is (vitamin A deficiency):
Night blindness may be an early sign of vitamin A deficiency. Such a deficiency may result from diets low in animal foods (the main source of vitamin A), such as eggs, dairy products, organ meats, and some fish. Low intake of fruits and vegetables containing beta-carotene (yellow/orange foods) , which the body converts into vitamin A, may also contribute to a vitamin A deficiency.

tratment :
acute vitamine A deficency is treated with large doses of vitamin A given orally .

Dates: Relief of Pain

It is a long-established custom among Muslim parents to put a piece of well-chewed date (or other available sweet fruit) in the mouth of a newborn baby. Muslims do this following the practice of the Prophet Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, believing him to bee, as the Quran says, sent as a healing and a mercy to mankind. We may infer from the way this custom originated that there is a virtue in it. There is - complimentary to the virtue and pleasure of following the Sunnah (the practice of the Prophet) - placing a `sugary substance’ inside the mouth of a new-born baby dramatically reduces pain sensation and heart rate.

An interesting scientific medical study, published in the British Medical Journal (No. 6993, 10 June 1995), proved beyond any doubt the benefit of giving a new-born child sugar, in order to reduce the feeling of any painful procedure like heel pricking for a blood sample or before circumcision

The study, entitled `The analgesic (pain killing) effect of sucrose in full term infants: a randomized controlled trial’, was done by Nora Haouari, Christopher Wood, Gillian Griffiths and Malcolm Levene in the post-natal ward in the Leeds General Infirmary in England

60 healthy infants of gestational age 37-42 weeks and postnatal age of 1-6 days, were randomized to receive 2ml of one of the four solutions: 12.5% sucrose, 25% sucrose, 50% sucrose, and sterile water (control).

The first group of 30 babies received sugar syrup before a routine blood test (heel pricking, which is usually painful) done to detect jaundice. The other 30 babies were given only sterile water as a control group.

Placing 2ml of a 25% or 50% sucrose solution on the tongue before pricking the heel significantly reduced the crying time, compared to babies who got water. Also, their heart rate returned to normal more quickly. The stronger sugar solution had the greater effect, crying being reduced further with increasing concentration of sucrose. From which we may conclude that sucrose (sugar) placed on the tongue may bee a useful and safe form of analgesia for use with newborn infants.

Blass and Hoffmeyer also showed that 12% solution of inter-oral sucrose significantly reduced the duration of crying in new-born babies subjected to heel pricking or circumcision. This study was reported in The Independent newspaper (Friday 9 June 1995) as well as in the British Medical Journal article.

The practice of the Prophet, upon him b piece, is recorded in the collections of his sayings and reports about him, of which the most revered are the two authentic collections of Al-Bukhari and Muslim:

Abu Buradah reported from Abu Musa, who said:

I had a new-born baby; I took him to the Prophet Muhammad, who called him Ibrahim. The Prophet chewed a date then he took it and rubbed the inside of the baby’s mouth with it.”

There are many other reported incidents like this one.

The date contains a very high percentage of sugar (70-80%); it has both fructose and glucose which have high calorific values, it is easily and quickly digestible, and very helpful to the brain. The date contains 2.2% protein, vitamin A, vitamins B1, B2 ad nicotruic acid (against Pellagra); it has traces of minerals needed for the body such as potassium, sodium, calcium, iron, manganese, copper. Potassium, of which percentage is very high, has been found to be very effective for cases of haemorrhage, such as the occasions of birth or circumcision.

We may note that the Sunnah also commends dates for the breaking of the fast in Ramadan. Dates should be eaten, if available, before the sunset prayer - this is medically and nutritionally the best way and the Sunnah.

The great worth of dates is also indicated in a famous and beautiful passage of the Quran, in chapter named Maryam, verses 25-6:

“And shake towards you the trunk of the palm-tree and it will drop on you fresh ripe dates. So eat and drink and be comforted.”

This was the prescription of God, the Creator, for the blessed Virgin Mary at the time of the birth of Jesus, the blessed Prophet of God. It was a prescription to make the delivery easy and comfortable.

As the authors of the medical study referred to intend trying new sugary or sweet substances, we shall recommend that they try dates for the newborn for the relief of pain.

“We shall show them our signs on he furthest horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth. Is it not sufficient that your Lord is witness over all things?” (Quran )
